Ensure your child’s dental care gets off to the best possible start.

Our dentists can guide parents and guardians on how to support their children at home, and treat any complications with your child’s teeth and jaw development.

How can you help my child?

Paediatric dentists are dedicated to the oral health of children from infancy through their teen years. They have the experience and qualifications to care for a child’s teeth, gums, and mouth throughout the various stages of childhood.

Without proper dental care, children face possible oral decay and disease that can cause a lifetime of pain and complications. Early childhood dental caries—an infectious disease—is 5 times more common in children than asthma and 7 times more common than hay fever. About 1 of 5 (20%) children aged 5 to 11 years have at least one untreated decayed tooth.

Putting the fun into dentistry

We’re sure you will agree that putting a bit of a humorous and fun spin on things can go a long way in encouraging children to partake in something that might be a little dry and dull (dental care!). Our paediatric dentist will always try to make your child’s appointment an enjoyable and educational experience, that inspires them to want to become independent with their dental care.

What types of treatments do paediatric dentists provide?

Our specialist registered paediatric dentist provides comprehensive oral health care that includes the following:

  • Infant oral health exams, which include risk assessment for caries in mother and child.
  • Preventive dental care including cleaning and fluoride treatments, as well as nutrition and diet recommendations.
  • Habit counselling (for example, pacifier use and thumb sucking).
  • Early assessment and treatment for straightening teeth and correcting an improper bite (orthodontics).
  • Repair of tooth cavities or defects.
  • Diagnosis of oral conditions associated with diseases such as diabetes, congenital heart defect, asthma, hay fever and attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
  • Management of gum diseases and conditions including ulcers, mucoceles and paediatric periodontal disease.
  • Care for dental injuries (for example, fractured, displaced or knocked-out teeth).

Your child’s first dental appointment

During your child’s first appointment, we will:

  • Examine your child’s mouth for abnormalities.
  • Examine the soft tissues.
  • Ensure the jaw is developing healthily.
  • Perform treatment that may be necessary to prevent future problems.
  • Suggest orthodontic treatment if teeth are developing irregularly.
